On a day with absolutely calm wind, a plane is standing on a runway that can move (some sort of band conveyor). The plane moves in one direction, while the conveyor moves in the opposite direction. The conveyor has a control system that tunes the speed of the conveyor to be exactly the same (but in the opposite direction) as the plane speed.
Can the airplane ever take off?
This was asked 11 months ago but the answer was not quite right.
The first correct answer gets the 10 spot.

Yes, the plane will fly. What you have to keep in mind is, on a plane the wheels do not contribute to the forward motion like the wheels on a car would. The jet engine or propeller createa thrust to "propell" the plane forward thus creating lift. The wheels on a plane are pretty much just a support that reduces friction (given the brake is not engaged!). the only effect the conveyor would have would be the actual wheel speed. the speed of the plane wouldn't change from a normal runway.
