An Atheist doesn't believe in a higher power.
An As s hole Is outspoken about it.
Just the same with Jehovah Witness and a quiet one
Or a Catholic and a quiet Catholic.
No there is no word for a person who keeps their religious beliefs to themself.
But there is the alternate word for ones that are outspoken about it.
e.g. The first answer and the 1st person above that answered.

Well, since there's no ideology to the statement "I don't believe in God" we all do things our own way - or at least have no compulsion to do otherwise.
so, if an atheist wants to say he/she is one or not is their choice.
but it is interesting that this is even a question. it is strong evidence that atheism is one of the few prejudices that is still acceptable.

I would have to call that person an honest person who simply doesn't believe nor disbelieve. I would be considered one of those people. I cannot put all my belief into a religion or God that I have not met or experienced. That doesn't mean he/she doesn't exist, nor does that mean that people who do believe are wrong. It simply means that until I see or experience God myself I will not be standing in church giving praise to someone that I have not met. I'd call a person like me....a realist!

The first group would be 'atheists with an independent source of income' and the latter would be 'atheists who need to keep their job.'
