i live in a university dorm in south africa (so its warm weather here) i don't have a fridge as yet but until i get one, i need to store my vegetables as long as possible. i've tried just about everything i can think of! what vegetables apart from carrots and potatoes have a natural long shelf life and how can i keep them fresh without a fridge?

cabbage is great for having a long shelf life. squash also keeps for a long time. anything with a thick skin will keep longer. brussels sprouts, cauliflower, radishes, and to a slightly lesser degree broccoli will certainly keep long enough for you to eat them. anise, zuccini, cucumbers, and omatoes will all keep for at least 4 days and usually a good bit more no matter how hot it gets. or course, onions and garlic also last a long time. the best thing would be if you lived close enough to your grocery store to go and get fresh food every couple of days.

U are blessed by ur situation to eat - healthy and fresh food and
U are going to work out also by walking up and down to buy them.. :)
Alright, Onion and Potatoes will stay for longer time than many other vegetables. Try covering the vegetable with wet cloth and keep them away from sun. Don't put them in air tight shelf or containers. pour water in a vessel and keep the leafy vegetables in a plastic cover inside them for longer life

Try this get a box or an igloo Put ice on the bottom put a plastic bag on top of the ice and put in the veggies and stuff on top. If you get an igloo ice chest get one that has a drain plug so you can drain it out. Should keep for about three days this way. When we bought our condo we did not have a fridge for six months so I know! We even kept milk this way.

Any root will hold up well, the other vegetables that are leafy will perish rather quickly without refigeration. Also look to dried beans as a good item.

Jicama, radishes, black beans, lintels.

Well, If You Have A Balcony or whatnot why not grow the vegetables in a large planter, sure it will be complicated but you will have natural vegatables growing in your balcony.

if you keep an apple in the same bag/container as your potatoes they won't grow sprouts... they will keep at least 3 weeks longer.
