Leftover strips of wool from my rug braiding. I tie them into various knots to make toys then 'marinate' them in a ziplock full of fresh organic catnip from the garden. He gets really whacky with them, then carries them all over the house. They're fun and cool looking too...I've been thinking about putting some on ebay.
Speaking of catnip, did y'all know catnip oil is 10-20 times better than DEET for repelling mosquitos?? It really works, I use it all the time, I just pick a sprig, rub it between my hands and rub my hands over whatever exposed area I want to keep the bugs off...

Cut a small hole in the bottom of a paper bag and let them go inside it from the open end. When they're in there move a string or ribbon (or your finger) past the hole and watch them reach through and try to grab it! My cat would do this for hours.
Also a ping-pong ball in the bathtub will keep them busy for awhile too!

I usually get some aluminium foil and scrunch it into a ball and all my cats have loved it, I think it is the noise and also how light it is, and because its so shiny. A very in expensive cat toy.

I'm a cat foster and my cats like dried catnip wrapped in an old linen napkin wrapped with yarn. My tabby will actually go fetch it and drop it at my feet. My other two cats just drool and rub their faces against it. When it gets dirty, wash it and start all over again.

my cats favorite toy was a three inch long stuffed rat toy that i would tie a 15 foot piece of yarn to, then tie the other end of the yarn to my finger....then i would throw the toy as far away from me as it would go( sometimes into another room) and pull it slowly back to me with the yarn....they go nutso over it!

My empty pack of cigarettes waded up in a ball and thrown down the hall she has a ball with it. It goes fast and she can hit it hard because it's light and she can travel fast with it, until it goes under the couch. The cellophane makes a noise too that drives her crazy. Have fun and good luck.

Well these are not homemade but they are unusual. I have 3 cats one loves to play with a cuetip she loves them she will try to get them out of the cabnet. The other cat loves to get a real flower out of the vase and play with it till it is destroyed. And the 3rd cat loves to play with magazines untill they are shredded. My cats are strange but i love them.

A fuzzy ball tied to an elastic string. She loves it when I zip them around the room really fast, and when they are just laying on the floor, she'll "sneak up" and pounce on them. She also loves it when I throw a rubber ball in the kitchen (since it has a tile floor, it really bounces, unlike on the carpet.)

You know when you open a gallon of milk. The plastic coil thing that comes off with the cap? They like that. They bat it around, and it takes on a life of its own as it holds its shape and boings around the kitchen...

Caps from bottles of Boost, a nutritional supplement. I'll throw them, he'll chase them & bring them back to me to throw again. He's like a dog. He doesn't like other caps though because they aren't as big (He's a big cat & could easily swallow & choke on regular bottle caps) and they don't make as much noise as the Boost caps.
