Been taking atenolol 25 mgs for 6 months and my blood pressure was normal for that time, but for the last week, i noticed my left hand to be weak at sometimes or hurts so i started looking at my blood pressure. so i noticed thats its averaging around 145/90 even when i am takin my medicine. is it normal that people with high blood pressure tend to have increases in strength of their med in time, by the way im late 20's so should i ask for stronger medicine?

Yes, Sometime people who take medications will have to sometime increase their dosages (this is common in all kinda of medications). Talk to your doctor. He/She may recommend that you are monitored to make sure it isn't just a raise in stress, increased caffeine, sleeplessness etc. (all of which can increase your BP).

3 years ago, I was diagnosed - hypertension with a reading of 160/100. I used to feel dizzy a lot, my legs had awful cramps, and levels were very low in my potassium, causing my fingers and toes to always cramp together. One day I started to feel really faint while I was driving with my daughter in the back seat and I passed out, hitting 3 cars and ending up in a ditch. That moment,I knew I had to do something because my meds weren't working. I heard about this diet from a friend and thought I'd give it a shot. The results have been remarkable. In just 21 days, I honestly can't remember feeling this good, my blood pressure went from 175/110 to 125/70.

Atenolol is a selective beta blocker and is more potent in bloking cardiac(Beta 1 )then bronchial receptor.
However selectivity is only relative and is lost at high dose.

As you have mention, ur using this drug as anti hypertesive( To decrease BP)then u should also know that this r relatively mild anti hypertensive but they r the first choice of drug due to good patient acceptability.

I strongly recomend you to contact your doctor b4 increasing the strength of your med.at the same time i know some ppl who mange to come out with all this problem with a proper excercise and diet.

remember this hypertension can leads to Diabetes, renal failure and MI, so proper monitering of your condition is much required.

Nyways good luck for ur health.tc

Blood pressure is treated generally by two drugs. One hypotensive and another a diuretic.40 mgs of Furesimide sold as Lasix taken along with Aten 25mg should bring your BP to 120/80.
Good luck.

I'm not too sure. I am more of a natropathic healer fro the ailments that I have. You seem too young to have problems with blood pressure. High blood pressure must run in your family. I know that diet is important (low sodium intake, etc.) If I were you I would look in to homeopathic medicine. It's easier on the bod. You could actually cure youself too.

If you get stress up or emotional unstable or taking too much fried stuffs and junk foods. it may trigger this problem. since you are only 20+, i suggest you do a bit more exercise and watch you diet and emotion. In addition, you could get some herbal tea which is safe and effective. like alfalfa leaf, dandelion leaf, nettle leaf, hawthorn and orange peel. 1 tea spoon each and with hot water infusion for 10mins then filter to drink. one time preparation serve one 2 cups. 4 cups per day. items could be obtain from organics paradise ( tel 6736 2089 ). each pkt only costs you few $. look up herbs book in library. good health is a form of education.
you must take responsibility of yours.
