That we are all Atheists about something...just some of us are atheists to one more God?

To a muslim, a christian is an atheist infidel
To christians, muslims worship a fake god
An atheist would look at both, shake his head and say 'Wow, look at all these fanatics.'

I think Richard Dawkins is right about a lot of what he says.

He doesn't always choose the kindest way of expressing it.

But I'm glad he has put forth his ideas. Fanatic ideology is a big problem in this country. It seems that the fringe elements of religions are getting more and more say, and more and more press.

And as they are getting further and further away from rational thought and the real world, they seem intent on dragging the rest of us with them.

I don't want your Apocalypse. I would rather learn to live in peace.

Dawkins is a Scientist and also, a human being. Human beings are prone to error and Dawkins is no exception. For example, Dawkins had to rework his dogma on "Black Holes" and changed his premise for them. Personally; I, as a Christian, hate "religion" because it promotes legalism, self-reliance and serves Jesus Christ a "back seat" in worship.(Religion is what got Jesus Christ murdered at the lies of His "religious" accusers [Jewish Pharisees] of His day !) I, therefore, subscribe to spirituality - a relationship with God the Father through Jesus Christ, via the Holy Spirit. More Jesus -Less Religion is my rule. Intellectualism and the worship thereof is a true religion, too ! The bottom-line in your question can be answered this way. There will come the time when everyone will become irrelevant and only, God will matter.

P.S. "Mr Religion" I perused your web-site quote and a very objective point of view on Dawkin's writings is given. Take a look at: www.dissentfromdarwin.org at the Center for Science and Culture for what other Scientists say about Darwin's Evolutionary theory. It is a real eye-opener. Since Dawkins employs a lot of Darwins works from evolution as a premise for his [Dawkins] writings, it further, illustrates Dawkins' humanness and proclivity towards error !

I have read many of Dawkins’ books and liked most of them. But in the God Delusion he seems to have left the scientific reservation and landed up in theology's back yard. He comes into the yard with no knowledge of the philosophical arguments needed to play with other theologians. Instead in his latest book he offers up nothing new, only the same rhetoric you would find, say in this forum. I would have expected a man of Dawkins’ stature to have spent some time studying philosophy and logic before writing a book that seems to resemble the same high school debates on religion vs. atheism that I experienced 30 years ago!

I urge you review what other minds have to say about Dawkins’ arguments. One of the best critiques of the God Delusion is at the link below. Dr. McGrath's lecture is reasoned and rational; two things that Dawkins leaves behind at the opening flap of his book and never looks back. Furthermore, Dr. McGrath's lecture is a model of the type of discussions I had hoped to find in the Yahoo R&S Forum: logical, cogent, articulate, recognizing the good and flawed points of a position, all while making reasoned arguments to support a personal worldview.

I encourage anyone, believer or not, to review the lecture in the link below, if for nothing else just to imagine what is possible for Yahoo R&S.

C.S Lewis stated that religion is like a math problem, some are closer to the right answer than others. Fact is, there are many highly educated people who are Christians. Romans 1 says, although they knew God , they did not glorify Him as God nor gave thinks, but their futile minds were darkened, although claiming to be wise, they became fools and worshiped the creation rather than the creator.

perceptions, opinions, beliefs. the statement implies that every human being is inherently decieved by their own bias. was richard dawkins saying that he himself was decieved?

richard dawkins says we are all athiests in some way, shape, or form. i say, that everyone worships something, be it spiritual, mortal, or superficial. faith is a polar spectrum that that everyone's beliefs fall on, even richard dawkins has faith in his on point of view, no one is a true athiest.

It's a quote from someone I know! Steven Roberts.

He says "I contend that we are both atheists. I just believe in one more god than you do. When you understand your reasons for rejecting all those other gods, you will understand my reason for rejecting yours"

Also known as "Snafu" on dalnet and he's the shizzle :)

I think he makes a valid point but I do not think he is entirely right. It is just his opinion on things do not forget. Dr. Spock was an excellent teacher about child affairs and much of what we do today is based on some of the things he said but he wasn't right about everything.

He may be right about religion, but he's wrong about Jesus. There is a difference.
