stops burning cd's half way through, message says incomplete try different cd or slower speed , I've done both

I've tried every speed with many different types of cd's(from low end to high dollar) getting costly for something I can't play in my car. I've tried media player 11, roxio came with this Dell , but not on the computer anymore. Any idea which disk it's on ,disks don't say specificly. Tech support is no help at all. Some dvd's burn just fine (some don't) , the one's that don't lock up the dvd player on the middle menu's to where you have to turn it off to do anything. The begining and end menu's play good. Same thing I've tried at least 5 different types of blank dvd's. I've tried Nero 7, My DVD. I NEED HELP , PLEASE.

have you tried a cleaning disc to clean the drive with they can jump when playing or stick when recording if they need cleaning.It sorta makes sense when you think everything stops around mid way

I can understand your frustration as we have all at some time had to throw away dud burnt CDs. You could have a faulty burner, or one that has come to the end of the laser's life. They don't last forever, those lasers, especially if you use it a lot to play music while you work. One thing you could try is to upgrade the driver and see if that helps. Sometimes the OEM drivers are pretty flaky. To avoid throwing away half-burnt CDs, do a test first and see if it is OK. My software allows a test and then burn option, ie. if the test fails, it doesn't burn. Or if you have the time, burn on a RW disc and then if it is OK, burn on to a normal CD.
