It probably is, but I agree that it is ridiculous. My husband had surgery on his knees, ACL allograft replacement. Each surgery was listed on the bill as over $26K!!! The sick part is that the insurance company negotiated price was $5K!! So if a corporation pays they pay $21K LESS!?!?!?! Out of pocket people without insurance get a "deal" but actually still pay more than the insurance companies. This is why health care is such a hot topic in politics. I was traveling through Europe a couple of years ago and had to see a doctor for bronchitis and a sinus infection. The total out of pocket expenses for the doctor's visit and the medicine was about 50 Euros. Yes, everybody has to pay high taxes in Europe countries that offer subsidized health care but seriously the outrageous cost of medication and health care in America HAS TO STOP. Think what the opposite implies, that if you are poor you do not deserve to have health care and in some cases live.

Probably. I had outpatient surgery on my neck a few years ago, and the bill was $20000. I was in the hospital for about 4 hours. Luckily, my insurance paid for most of it.

it probably is pretty close to the actual cost. I had my appendix out and it was $15,000. Hopefully you have insurance and they'll pay for most of it. If not, good luck.... I know that the U should be willing to work out some payments for you.

Sounds pretty steep to me. I would ask them to compute what the charges they expect to incur and have them submit it to you. Most hospitals pad the bills, that is why it is good to get an itemized statement when you get ready to leave the hospital.
Best of Luck to You.
