I am a chef of 13 years and my husband is an excellent cook also. Put him in a professional kitchen and he would fall apart in a heartbeat. There is a common misconception perpetuated mostly by men that they are the most competent of our species to prepare food for the masses. Women cooking at home often do it at least 4-5 times a week in addition to working outside the home and taking care of the family details. I would like to see every husband cook everyday like a rock star as they do on some Sundays, when the weather is nice and the grill is enticing : )

I cook often and my family loves it when I do so. I personally won't serve anything that I just don't love and it clicks with them. Wife gets to relax and I get the satisfaction of bringing home the bacon and cooking it up.
It might be because you are a man (congrats!) so you have a generally heightened taste in the "manly" flavors. We all know that men love food and we recognize an unseen value in a meal that is well done and satisfying. Ths keeps the male cooks' solid attention.
Now some may say that it's because "at the end of the day women are tired" or "men use more fats/salt/oil" but we both know that's crap. First off, it's the 21st century, everyone's tired when they get home come dinner prep time, I know I am. Secondly, a monkey can throw a bunch fats and salt on meal but the art is knowing how to slap it on in just the right ratios.
Your probably not going to get a solid response but I hope this aids.

I think gender has no bearing on who is a better cook. The points you made are gross generalisations. The reason why there are more men at the top is the same as in most industries, it is not child friendly and the hours are very long. Most women have the main responsibility for the home. As for a bloke who tells his wife that her cooking is great when he doesn't really think so, he is obviously a habitual liar who has no respect for his spouse.

Well having worked in quite a few kitchens I have seen few women that could do it. I am not saying there aren't women that can, but I would say that 90 percent or more of the chefs/line cooks are men. I believe it is because of the mental and phisical stress. I used to work on a farm so I was always used to hard work, but a kitchen during the rush is one of the most stressfull (mental and phisical) situations I have been in. Not to sound sexist, most women can't handle the heat and stress that men can. There are exceptions to that rule, one of which is Hillary White of 103 West in Buckhead (Atlanta Georgia), but she is one of the few that I have known.
Now I have seen many women in baking and catering which is a little less stressfull than cooking in a restaurant, and they were quite good at it, though they were still outnumbered by men, just not by as much.
As far as in the home, I don't have an explination, unless it is the fact that generally women look at it as they have to do it where men generaly choose to do it. I do have to say that I have known many great women home cooks, just not profesionals.

This is not true in my world, but my family and friends do tend to be a bit unusual.
Someone mentioned line cooking-my sister was a line cook for 15 years, her comment was, "the food the women cook won't make you sick", she said the men cooks tend to be a little loose, hygienically speaking. Yum!

men are not better at cooking than women. That is a rediculous question. Watch Iron Chef Ameria and watch Cat Cora she will blow your mind. Granted there are more male cooks in the industry but that does not make us any better. Open your eye and smell the coffee we are all created the same and all have the same potential it is what we make of it to allow ourselves to grow.

It does not work that way at my house!!! my husband would burn water!! My older brother is also a great cook, but my younger brother isn't . I think the best cooks are the ones that love it the most!!! My father in law prefers me to bake him a dessert than to store bought gifts!!! And my homemade soups are legendary!!!

Men are not afraid to experiment and can whip up delicious concoctions by random selection of ingredients, while women will stick to the recipe and won't alter it if they could not find the right ingredients. That's why most chefs hired by famous restaurants and hotels are of course, men!

i think men are better cooks becouse they like cooking and seeing it more as a challence.
while women considering cooking more as a duty, and not putting to much efford in it.
women are also thinking more about other things while cooking,,and worry to much about things like there nails/hands and are more fuzzy about it.
women are also less interested in trying to cook
or try out new things.
they are leaving, the ,, try out,,for when they go shopping for new clothes/shoes/handbags.
