The safest way to thaw a frozen turkey or any meat at that is in the refrigerator.

Make sure you give it at least a good two to three days to thaw.

Last Thanksgiving I had a 14lb. and it was ready in 2 1\2 days.

Allow about 1 day for every 5 pounds of turkey to thaw in the refrigerator. ·Turkey may be defrosted in cold water in its airtight packaging or in a leak-proof bag. Submerge the bird or cut-up parts in cold water, changing the water every 30 minutes. ·Turkey defrosted in the microwave should be cooked immediately after thawing because some areas of the food may become warm and begin to cook during microwaving. Holding partially cooked food is not recommended because any bacteria present wouldn't have been destroyed.

The safest way to thaw any meat product is in the fridge. Be sure to place it in a pan - you don't want drippings to run down and contaminate the produce drawer.

You can also thaw it in COLD not hot water, and you will need to refresh the water to keep it below 70 degrees. You never want to thaw any meat on the counter.

it should be fine. I bought a whole beef loin from a costco and the butcher there said that I could keep it in my fridge for 2 or three weeks if I wanted to. Make sure the temps not to high I probably would haved covered it with foil instead. but the cooking bag might keep it more moist.

In the refrigerator is the only way that's supposed to be really safe. If you need it quickly, you can put it in water and change the water every hour.

I have to agree with Karen, above, though - my mom put ours on the counter more times than I can remember, and nobody ever got sick in 50+ Thanksgivings. If it's properly cooked, I can't see why anybody WOULD get sick.

In the fridge....just set aside a spot for it, and have it in the fridge for at least 2 days for a smaller turkey, and at least four days for the 20 pound size.

in the fridge 3 days before ya want to eat it or 2 days then run it under cold water as u pick the stuff inside out of it and it will defrost faster. never leave it out unless it cold same temp water running.

Hopefully it's wrapped, Place into a large casserole or baking dish and place in the refrigerator at least 24 hours prior to have it ready to cook.

I do ours in a portable (camping style) freezer(open) in the garage for a day, then bring it in, still in the freezer, for the day, then at night, put it into a sink with cold water.
Or you could do what my Mom always did...leave it on the counter overnight. ***Hey, we never, ever got sick, so who knows.
