I think it is because all people are afraid of the unknown. There is no way of knowing how it is in Heaven, or how it is in hell.
Nobody has gone to either place, and returned. Whether there is one or the other, we don't really know, and we will just have to wait and see. That will happen, when we die.

I just lost my mom, and when she was dying she really didn't want to let go because she felt there were things here on earth that she needed to take care of.........like selling her house........we kids told her it was OK to let go and that she could take care of whatever she felt she still needed to take care of "from the other side" and when we came back from dinner, she was gone. It broke my heart that we were not there, but I know my mom is finally at peace........ she fought for SO long, and SO hard, and for what??? (For my son, her only grandchild, but she had really horrible emphysema and couldn't see him anyhow)
I know that she is in a better place now and is happy, but it was the most difficult thing I've ever gone through and I hope you have more time with your loved one.

death is unavoidable and a reality we all dont really like to get into.. so why be afraid of it.... why do u think ppl say live each day like it were u last.. u don know when ur gunna pass on...could be rite now... or tomorrow or 50 yrs frm now.. so why worry bout when ur gonna go.... why not jus enjoy ur life rite now to the fullest... and leave the rest to that man upstairs .. he;ll take us when he feels we've had/done enough for this lifetime.. so relax n enjoy ;)

death is historically vague since the beginning of humanity,it is a one way ticket to the nothingness, that's why people are afraid from it,and try their best to avoid it as much as they can, furthermore FREUD said that our death is unimaginable !

I think it is that death is something of a mystery.. No one likes to know they are going to be going to an unknown place, it can be frighteining, but faith can get you through.

Genetic programming to preserve the species. We stay alive because we try to avoid death because of fear.

they are afraid of losing their loved ones.
afraid of parting away from their assets.
they felt afraid when people tell them they will go to "hell" when they've done bad things.
many things "scare" them, they're afraid to die..
