LMAO at all these previous answers, notice everybody says something different...
Here's the deal...
and I was a Military wife of a 13 year USMC Staff NCO...plus I have a lot of friends in the military...
Truth is....NO BRANCH OF THE MILITARY IS UNDER ANY OBLIGATION WHAT SO EVER TO FULFILL THE SO CALLED PROMISE OF ANY GIVEN MOS...
My son has a ton of friends that will be enlisting with in the next year, as they're all about to turn 18, they talk to me about about their Military dreams, they describe their chosen MOS in detail, with such excitement and conviction...
I always tell them... Prepare for the worst and hope for the best, cause there are NO guarantees when it comes to the Military.

Well, that's a loaded question if I've ever seen one. You're going to have to sort thru a lot of crap to get the answer. MOST people can only talk about one branch of service, since they only served in one, but there will be some who have done both.
The US Army guarantees the job that YOU choose, provided you qualify for it and a vacancy exists. Once you have that guarantee, you have a legal and binding contract that you will be trained in the job that you chose. If you can't complete the training, thru no fault of the Army, you will be re-classed into another job skill for "the welfare of the Army". (Kind of makes you want to finish the course, huh?)
When I got out of recruiting in 2000, the Army was the only branch that would guarantee, in writing at MEPS, a specific job that the applicatant chose. Things may have changed since I left recruiting, but I doubt it. It was that way when I enlisted in 1984, and it was that way in 2000, so...
I saw some BS forms coming out of the other recruiting offices, that the recruiter gave the applicant, but they weren't worth the paper they were written on. The Army puts it's guarantee on a Dept of the Army form (issued at MEPS), not a form generated in the recruiter's office.

Any branch of the military that you join will put you in the job that you enlist for. Just make sure you have signed up for what you want. It is a binding contract between you and the military when you enlist and will not be changed. Now all branches might ask you to change your MOS by offering incentives or promotions but as long as you have the MOS you request before you join, you will remain in that field unless you change it yourself.

Ha, ha, the cook's answer is pretty funny. Never sign up for food service, culinary arts, whatever they call it. That is a miserable life. But it's not representative of ALL of military life. And I've also known cooks who were motivated and excellent NCOs who became executive chefs. So it's really about the person, not the job. You can succeed anywhere with the right mindset.
To answer the question, the Army is the only service that actually guarantees a training slot. Understand that if you flunk out of that training, you can be involuntarily trained in something else. So it's up to you to choose wisely, and to pass your skill training.

They all lie! Look at how many have been extended beyond their contract date! Try and leave the military before your contract date is up, but they do not have to keep their word to you!
Probably the Air Force keeps their word more than the other branches!

The Airforce will sometimes offer guaranteed Job specific placement. I think they are the best. The worst is most likely the Army. I went in for JAG and almost ended up in the Infantry as a linguist. One is a respected officer, and the other one is Foxhole fodder.

The Navy & Marines are the worse. I would have to say the Air Force is better in keeping their job. The Army is close second.

Assuming you're talking about jobs you're *actually* qualified for: best is Navy, worst is Air Force. But any one of them will stick you in whatever position meets *their* needs, no matter what you think they promised you.
