I've heard that a lot of dog food is pretty much the grain and meat that is rancid, but NOT ALL. So is it actually healthier to food your doog healthy human food than dog food?

Should't I want to feed my doog more meat and less fillers like corn and rice? I mean meat was a stapple of the dog's diet before they were demosticated.

You can feed human food. But you will have to read up on the BARF diet (raw diet)

Human junk food no. Healthy human foods can be used to supplement a good quality kibble. If you want a kibble that is low in fillers and high in protein Google Holistic dog food. There are a lot of great companies out there like Innova, Canidae, Wysong, Solid Gold, Flint River Ranch... Etc. If you look at the ingredients list on some of these holistic foods you will see a lot of things you eat incorporated into the kibbles.

My dog also receives in small amounts, banana, apple, blueberries, cheese, eggs, brown rice, baked unseasoned and raw chicken meat, salmon and many other "human" foods.

You can learn a lot online by doing a little research. You can incorporate these foods into their meals or use them for treats.

I think people blow the whole "no people food for dogs!" thing out of proportion. If your dog were in the wild he would only eat meat and the occasional plant--so I see no reason not to supplement his diet with "real" food, rather than ground-up dehydrated bits. Research what kinds of food are ok for dogs and what foods are poisonous, don't feed him things with salt and sugar, and make sure to keep an eye on portion control and he will be fine. The dog I had as a child ate almost exclusively "people food" and he lived to be 15 years old, he wasn't overweight, and he never had any serious health issues.

It is not rancid meat. Sounds like someone with an agenda or some PETA nut spouting nonsense.

Dog food has different makeups. The better ones have less corn and more rice and/or meat.

Its probably better nutrionally than alot of the food humans eat. It tastes like the worst health food you've ever had though.

I would recommend going to a pet store and buying a high quality possibly organic dog food if your looking for the healthiest meal for your dog. (Do not buy the crap at the grocery stores, it has too much carbs/corn filler in it). It will supply them with the essential vitamins and minerals that they would not get from meat and rice. While they probably wouldn't hurt your dog... people food may give him/her some pretty rancid gas.

Most 'human' food is far superior for the dog's health than any of the brands of kibble that you will find at the grocer's.
However, there are many food items that dogs metabolize differently than humans do, so it is easier to just say, "No people food" than to try to remember what they really shouldn't have..

Dogs Shouldn't Have:
Onions (in any form)
Added salt (most prepared foods are salted)
Nitrates, which is in most processed meats
Mono-sodium glutamate, which is in SO many of our food items.
Chocolate, or candy of any kind.
Raisins or grapes
Fruit seeds/pits, and most tree nuts are harmful.
Turkey fat/skin can be devastating, causing pancreas disease.
No cooked bones..
No corn or soy (found in most dog foods)
No fresh milk products, at all..
Nothing containing caffeine, such as coffee, cola or tea.
Nothing with excess fat, and ONLY low fat cheese
Easy on the organ meats (liver, etc) and easy on the cabbages and tomatoes.

SO, if one can remember all the "dont's" then you can create a healthy dog diet from 'human' food items.
I give my dogs small amounts of safe 'human' food, daily, and feed a wholesome premium kibble

Great dog food kibble are the ones with meat as the base protien, and made from all human grade ingredients.
Canidae, Innova, Wysong, Wellness, Natural Balance, or Solid Gold are found in most local (not chain) pet supply shops.
However, if one can afford the VERY best, it is Karma Organic Holistic Dog Food. I can't afford it for my many dogs...sigh

I can't afford all organic for my human family...lol

My mom has been feeding her dog only human food,he's a poodle and he's well alive and 16 years old :-) I feed my dog only dog food from Candae, that I found had the best reviews and he is very healthy, but still too young to say if it's good or not. I do give my dog our food that my vet said is ok like carrots, apples without skin but very rarely, rice and veggies :-)

A good nutritional food like Eukanuba or Science Diet is best for your dog, as it includes all the necessary nutrients and is made to be digestible for dogs. I do feel that a serving of rice and hamburger/chicken/turkey every once in a while is good for them and their coat. Rice is highly digestable so it is easy on their stomach and the protein is good for them as well. A little taste of human table food is not going to hurt them with the exception of milk products which is not digestable, or onions, garlic, chocolate and grapes which are all toxic to dogs. Every dog likes a little taste of something yummy every once in a while, as long as it's a little taste and not harmful to their tummys.

Dog food mainly because it has all the protiens and stuff the dog needs but I give my dogs table scraps every once in a while. Just don't wanna do it on a regular basis.

No human food is not healthier than dog food. Dog food is designed for dog with lots of protein and fat. Brands such as timberwolf or barking at the moon are great and are high in protein and low in meat. human food may have salt and the dog may start begging for tablescrapes

Some food is not healthy for your dog but some is again.
I do give my dog our leftovers like meat, rice, chicken.
Their is a saying if your pet is ill give them chicken and rice so they can keep their weight, I did try it and it works.
