You cannot, in good conscience, give away a dog that is known to be aggressive to children. No rescue will accept such a dog, and animal control will put her down immediately if you tell them she has growled at a child, and bitten people. The only people who will be attracted to her with her current disposition are, well, not people you want owning dogs in the first place.
Given her options if she can no longer live with you, and frankly I would not tolerate a dog who repeatedly showed aggression towards me or any member of my family, it is kinder to have her put to sleep than it is to pawn her off on some other person. She will either wind up in the pound, or owned by some jackhole who will encourage her aggression. All of you who are carrying on about how putting to sleep isn't an option, go down to the local shelter and ask how many dogs get dumped on them for this same behavior. Better to do it now, than let her be passed from person to person, in gradually worsening situations, until she is finally dumped at the shelter where her chances of finding a good home are a big, fat ZERO. Millions of well adjusted, good tempered dogs are destroyed each year because there's no home for them.... the odds of a biter finding a good one are nil.
Also, since she has a prior history of biting people, should she attack your child or ANYONE else for that matter, you may well be brought up on criminal negligence charges for keeping her. Would not be the first time that has happened.

First try a "free to good home" ad in the paper. No, before that first, other first - be very vigilant around dog and child. Confine dog if you need to, close door to child's room, stuff like that. Next call the ASPCA or Humane Society - whatever you have - even the pound and ask if there is anyone who will foster the dog and try to find a good home for her. If there is a Pit Bull breeder near you, talk to them and see if they can help. I know, mixed breed but a good breeder is also a dog lover and will help if possible. Tough spot for you to be in. Kind of like having two kids and having to pick one to keep. There may be a trainer near you who could teach the dog to be less aggressive, but I have never had a Pit Bull and really am not sure how much you can tone one down. Good luck to you.

You deffinately need to look in to this much further. Putting the dog to sleep is not an option
Your post states
She has been a great protector over the years and was once beaten up in a home invasion when she was 2.
This dog protected you then and paid the price by getting beaten up - Try whatever it takes with training etc and don't give up. The dog never would or has given up on you
Good luck and keep us all posted

See a dog trainer. Watch some episode of Dog Whisperer as well.
It might be picking up on worry you have when the dog is near the kid and miscontruing it as a situation where it needs to protect you.
There is no need to put the dog down. Give it away before it ever comes to that.

Ii would give her the very best day of her life, (treats and affection) and take her to the vet to be put down..I am so sorry, but dogs live life in the quality, and not the quantity..She will forgive you if it is done in kindness.
You have to think about how you will feel if you put it off too long, and she injures your child.. My own pit bull injured my 3 year old, and I still feel guilty, even though it has been 29 years..
she might be more comfortable with a female vet..

Sorry to hear about your dog being beaten. I would put the dog down. My child would be my biggest concern. I wouldn't wait until something else happened. He has bitten 3 times already. They don't usually just stop biting after that. If the athorities knew about him biting you wouldn't have to make this decision.

See if you can get a hold of some episodes of The Dog Whisperer. He's amazing. Sometimes the episodes are on TV, but you can get all of them from Netflix and watch the ones most pertinent to you and your dog.
Here's a link to a website about him:

it's a sad day in america when you got to ask what to do in this situation.if i had a dog that growled at my 13 month old child i would put a bullet in it personally.these people say give it away.why would you give away a dog that would harm a child?it shouldn't be a hard decision it's your dog verses your child.i love dogs as much as any person should but that will never even come close to as how much i love my children.if you give this dog away and it attacks a helpless child how could you live with yourself.i hope for your childs sake you put this dog down immediately.

No canines merits to be positioned down by way of landlord's issues. As you stated, the canines is healthful, so there is not any reason to place it down. attempt putting her guidance up on the cyber web or asking your interior of sight no-kill shelters approximately it. the main suitable answer is to stumble on a greater physically powerful abode to your canines, no longer putting it down.
