Paine, Thomas 1737–1809. British-born American writer and Revolutionary leader who wrote the pamphlet Common Sense (1776) arguing for American independence from Britain. In England he published The Rights of Man (1791–1792), a defense of the French Revolution. John Adams wrote about him in 1805 =
"I know not whether any man in the world has had more influence on its inhabitants or affairs for the last thirty years than Tom Paine."

Here is a quote by Thomas Paine -

I love those who can smile in trouble, who can gather strength from distress, and grow brave by reflection. 'Tis the business of little minds to shrink, but they whose heart is firm, and whose conscience approves their conduct, will pursue their principles unto death. -
