Specially if you are not with them to guide. (I'm a father who works abroad and only two months in every two years we were together. They are under my sisters supervision.) Thanking in advance.

From what you have written, it's not possible for you to motivate your children to do anything. If you see them for two months every two years, you really don't have any influence over them at all. Your children need your daily presence in their lives (phone calls don't count). Find a way to be with your children. They shouldn't have to grow up without their dad. Good luck.

I am getting my elementary teaching credential and this topic has come up a lot. As a teacher it is always a challenge to keep each student motivated. To do this there are different strategies to do this. One is to try to connect things to their own experiences. This way they can relate on a personal level.
As a parent of 2 boys 9 and 2 weeks, I struggle with this with my older son. I just try to explain to him that his work is a reflection of him as a person. Using their own pride works for some. Also explaining to my son that if he studies ,concentrates harder and taking his time to do things right the first time makes it so he doesn't have to go back and correct it.

Use TV, computer games or other fun stuff as a reward. If they do 1 hour of study let them play a video ggame for half hour or so. My dad used to pay us for every good mark we got at school and that was motivation as we were rewarded with something we loved...money. Kids at 10 - 12 don't usually see the value of education for what it is in itself, the most important thing in your life!! Good luck

you need to make the study process become more interesting, and of course you have to learn what are your kids hobbies.. make them feel more comfortable in learning... maybe you can give them some little suprise after they finish their study like an ice creams, chocolate, cakes, and also a bigger reward for them if they can pass the criteria that you gave..( number 1-3 rank in class, get an A grade for mathematics, etc..)
