Shame on a you, a smart atheist, for falling for that. Of course the first time I did it, "it" guessed correct. So I refreshed it, simply thought of the exact same number, and waited for the same symbol to appear, which of course didn't... because the symbols next to the numbers CHANGE each time.

The mathematics of the exercise limit the answer to a certain set of numbers, and all those numbers in the set share the same symbol.

Rerun it a few times in a row. You'll see what I mean.

The gopher? Or the math?

Wow. It took my husband and I quite awhile to figure out what the trick was. At first, we were a little creeped out by it. Now we understand that they change the possible answers to the same symbols every time. I like that site though. I'll be able to get a few people with it!

it's actually mathematical, there's several scenarios one can give to end up with a certain number through the basic mathetmatical processes. then have the same symbol for all the possible outcomes and make up different symbols for the rest of the numbers you know people aren't gonna come up with.

i get it now. i think they already know which numbers would have answers to the formula they gave. so they just put in the same symbol for them everytime. like 18, 16, 9, etc.

And no, they're not always multiples of 9 :)

If you do the math right you will always end up with a multiple of 9. All of the multiples of 9 have that symbol.

Actually, it's somehow related to time, it's either the time you take to figured out the answer or the time you take to look for the symbol.
I've done it with different answers and at normal speed he gets it right, when i whip through it he doesn't.
