Protocol = a code prescribing strict adherence to correct etiquette and precedence (as in diplomatic exchange and in the military services)
Breach of Protocol would be violating a set of strict rules and regulations.

Contract = a binding agreement between two or more persons or parties.
So a breach of contract would be violating a one-on-one agreement with another person or company.

A breach of protocal means that you are doing something in a manner that it is not customary or appropriate. A breach of contract is when you fail to do something that you already agreed to do.

Breach of protocol is just not following the rules, you wont get sued for it.
Breach of contract, you signed it and you have to abide by it, otherwise, you can get sued.

A breech of protocol, is usually illegal and can land you in jail, in my experience. A breech of Contract may land you in civil court.
