does this practice of frequent breaks from school make the american students lazier, therefore not as academically competent?

Primarily three breaks a year: Summer break for almost 3 months; winter break for about 2 weeks; spring break for about a week. The problem with American students is that they don't value and respect getting an education as much as many other cultures--therefore they do not work as hard.
