I have a PSA reading of 180. Can this be managed?. The cancer has moved to my bones.?

Sounds pretty far along. But there's hope.

Five hundred years ago, people said the world was flat. Today, people say that if the FDA and AMA haven't blessed something, it can't be real good. Well, here's something I know to be real AND good. It's a little different take on cancer treatment--

In 1990, I had Hodgkin's Lymphoma, stage 3-B, but I've survived. My doctors were great people, but they were limited to surgery, chemo and radiation by profitable AMA treatment policy. During the year in treatment, I started learning about alternative medicine. I'm a retired engineer, and this is what I've pieced together--our IMMUNE SYSTEMS become weakened by poor nutrition, lack of exercise and reduced oxygen. Once that happens, our body becomes vulnerable to common STRESSORS. Stressors can be environmental, like viruses, heavy metals, pesticides, food additives, electromagnetic waves or pollution. They can be internal things like emotional or job stress, or poisonous people in our lives. Aging is also a contributing factor. So this means:

Our bodies have 60 trillion--yes, trillion--cells, and there are always some mutating into cancer cells, but a healthy immune system kills them before they have a chance to get a foothold in the body.

It takes a LONG time, usually, or a high level of stressors, to weaken the immune system to the point where it won't do its job, but once cancer has formed, it will generally spread rapidly.

A PSA of this magnitude usually means that you have metastatic disease (cancer outside of the prostate). The question of whether or not you need treatment depends on several things, including whether the metastasis can be visualized on a CT scan or bone scan, or if you have symptoms from it. If you have either of these things, the best treatment would be hormonal therapy (more specifically androgen-deprivation therapy). Most patient will respond well to this, and the idea is to reduce PSA to as low as possible. Radiation therapy is only used in this case for symptomatic bone disease, and chemotherapy may be considered if once the disease stops responding to hormone therapy.
But yes, this can definitely be managed and there are a lot of treatment options.

PSA, Prostate Specific Antigen is produced in the prostate and is normally in the single digits. When cancer develops, the reading gets higher.

It's not PSA you want to manage, it is the cancer.

When prostate cancer is still in the capsule of the prostate, you have a number of choices for treatment including surgical removal. Once it has metastisised to the bones, surgery is not useful.

Your choices are radiation and chemotherapy. I trust you are in the care of an oncologist. You need to be knowledgable and ask questions of your doctors. Just type "prostate cancer" into your search engine and you will get a number of useful links. Some will tell you what kinds of questions to ask.

Only your oncologist can tell you. You didn't say if your are also on zometa infusion for the bone.
