This can't be prevented or deleted. When your computer updates the Windows operating system, Microsoft loads a Genuine Validation program on your machine to check your operating system's serial number (product key). If it already has that "key in their database or if the key is not in the correct sequence it will notify you with the message you received. If this is the operating system you got with your computer, contact Microsoft. If this is a "copy" you got somewhere else, you need to buy a new copy of the operating system. If you don't want to spend the money, go back to the operating system your computer came with. My advice would be to go back to the original operating system and start saving for a new Vista PC. Because buying a new OS could cost ($100-$200 while a new PC can be bought for $500 WITH the OS built in). -Good Luck

Hi there.

It means that your copy of Windows seems to be illegal (aka pirated copy). In other words, you may be a victim of software counterfeiting. This copy of Windows is not genuine and is not eligible to receive all updates and product support from Microsoft.

Check it out for more info:

Hope this helps

No need to use illegal software. There are many free, reliable and up to date operating systems available. In addition, all of the programs that you will ever use are FREE!!!

My family's favorite is UBUNTU. You can order a CD or download it.
There is a starter guide in WIKI and you can get online support from other users.

it basically means it not the real thing. i don't know how or why it depends on where you got or shall i say who you got it from. i would take it and get the real thing. if you downloaded from the internet it's not the real thing because most of te time for any type of operating software you need the cd in order to install and i would like to think there would be a product key that comes with it.
