I have made angel food in a bread loaf pan before. The idea to use the oven-save bowl with and insert sounds like it might work. This is from a web site: Be careful substituting a pan when the recipe indicates that a tube pan should be used, such as an angel food cake pan or a bundt pan. Generally the recipe requires this type of pan so the heat is distributed properly. This is necessary for the food to get to its proper doneness.
This web site (Called Baking911) has very useful information: http://www.baking911.com/pantry/substitutes_pansizes.htm
Good Luck
ps. The grocery store has tin foil pans you might try.

The bake time would be all messed up and you may have burnt top and mushy inside. But if it's a casserole dish that says "oven safe" cut back the heat (like if it says 350, bake it at 320 or so) and add extra bake time (keep inserting tooth picks about 10-15 minutes after to see if it's still covered in batter).
You can buy a cheap aluminum cake pan at any grocery store for a buck or so, that's always an alternative.

you can use a thin, oven safe pot. coat it with shortening and sprinkle lightly with flour. this isn't ideal for angel food cake, but it will stick horribly if you don't. take an empty steel can, what you get your canned veggies in, remove the label, wash it, and place it in the center of the pan. have someone hold it in place while you pour the batter in. this will create the hole in the center you need for your even heat distribution. it is safe to bake the can, as long as it isn't the kind lined on the inside with that plastic stuff. angel food cake is a delicate process, so watch closely, and be careful not to overcook. a nonstick pot is best, you could forgo the shortening and flour. but you should still coat the can.

Do you have an oven safe pot? No wooden or plastic elements? It actually says oven safe on it somewhere? Then you should be fine. If not, most grocery stores sell foil pans cheap.

I know my Gma use to when she had to make more than one. She had a large metal mixing bowl and would place a glass (make sure it is glass) in the middle of the bowl and use that to improvise and it always came out great for her. Best of luck with your cake.
