ok, so me any mom are going with my class to New York in May, It'll cost a little less than $5,000 for both of us. The problem is my "class" isnt really a class. We are small group of homeschooled students that meet two days a week. Only a few people are going which makes it even harder.

I just finished selling the last of my candy bars and after a month of selling them i realized i only got a profit of $108! Selling things is hard work and not to effective. We want to do carwashes and a garage sale when it gets wamer but the problem is that we live near seattle so it wont be warm enough for a while. And the trip is in May.

Does anybody have any good fundraising suggestions or ideas? I found this website and it seemed nice but kinda fishy what do you think about it? http://www.fasttrackfundraising.com/magazine_fundraiser.php?wizard
basically that website will give u a free website to sell magazines on and get a nice profit...but anybody have any other GOOD ideas?

Selling things for fundraising always stinks. It is hard work, you don't make much and people are just generally tired of being sold all the time.
My daughter is in a competitive choir and we have two good sales every year, but most of our business is repeat buyers. Most of the students have lists of people that buy this stuff from them each year, so we aren't doing much door to door at all.

Don't discount the garage sale idea. If the weather is cool, have everyone involved bring their coffee makers and serve cocoa and coffee. Go to your city and get permits to put out signs on major corners (we have to have permits here) put up flyers if you can. Tell as many people as you can. And be sure to put on your signs and flyers that it is a fundraiser. People will be more willing to buy something if they know it is a fundraiser.

Another idea is a service idea. You can walk dogs, babysit, do light housekeeping. Print up some cool flyers that briefly explains that you are raising money for a trip, then pass them out in your neighborhoods, or even talk to your pastor about approaching people at church, talk to your librarian, people like that. This works well, because you have no cost and people would rather you vacuum their floors than buy a candybar or something they don't need.
good luck!

Have you asked some of your local co op's? Come on Seattle has a lot of Hippies that would love to help I bet! Maybe a pizza place or book store would help. You have a fund raiser night and get a percent of the profit's. And what about bake sales or an auction? Ask locals people to donate you could even donate stuff like a free dinner or maid service. Get out there and ask! If we can raise money in Bakersfield where they don't like us "unnormal" folks you can too. Have fun in New York.

yup i have an idea
well you could do is that........(thinking)..
well why dont you buy stuff from the stores that is really cheap and raise the amount a litle more so you can get the money you need then you might get some more money
try to get what people like and will buy
or else
have a garage sale
or else
sell some clothes that you dont wear that is new
or else
you can also go to the dollar store and buy stuff from there and then you could sell it for like how about 2.00 instead of one
i dont know if you like it
but the best i could try to help
thanks
and yah
another idea is buy some name branded things and sell it
that way people can give you your chance of getting your money quicker
okay
thanks again
good luck and i hope you enjoy selling
and also the trip

haha that is soo funny..because i went with my class to new york in may as well a couple of years ago. it cost us each 1,000. we earned our money by selling candy bars, which sucks i know. also i did a lot of bake sales at my church. we picked, washed, bagged and sold oranges. had a couple of garage sales after getting donations. we had a couple of volunteers cook a huge dinner and we served it to our church and they gave donations. car washes are SO good...we made like 800 dollars off of one! we also sold candles and Dug-Out Cookie Dough. fundraising can be a lot of work and hard, but fun too.

oh yeah...we made it to new york! its so incredible. time sqaure is just BRILLIANT! we also visited washington d.c. and pennsylvania in the same trip (had dinner with an amish family!). its going to be a trip you will never forget.

good luck and have FUN!!!

Since you are not a bonafide organization I'm not sure how you are doing this. You aren't a school that is an organized non-profit.
