I work outside as a gardener. I am curious if I am wanting to lose some weight, will working physically with my muscles cause me to gain or lose weight. ( I heard that muscles weigh more than fat)?

I'm reliably informed that if you start muscle building and pile on the muscles... that a lot of it turns and stays as fat as you get older / middle age.

You will gain weight when you build muscle. However, if you balance it out with cardio, which you will as a gardener, you won't gain as much weight. A good eating regimen will help you lose weight too. Small amounts about 5 times a day.

Muscles do weigh more than fat, but you don't go by what you weigh, you go by your body fat percentage or your body mass index, not by your weight.

Building muscles will make you gain weight because your are increasing the size of the muscle and obviously weight will increase with size. Gardening is not a significant source of resistance training (lifting weights) for your muscles to noticibly grow. If you want to loose weight you must burn more calories than you intake. So if you have a caloric deficiency then working with your muscles (or doing any physical exercise), will cause you to loose weight from burning fat but you will not be building any muscle.

Yes muscle does weigh more than fat. But what you weigh is not important at all, what matters is the way you look and feel. Exercising will cut fat without significant muscle growth as long as you don't lift heavy weights. If you are in poor shape to begin with, which is likely if you do not regularly exercise, than your muscles will become stronger due to use. This will also give you body a more "toned" appearance, which is usually a good thing. Worry about the results that you see in the mirror, not on the scale.

Muscle weighs more than fat and it also uses much more energy. Forget about weight. What you are wanting to lose is fat not necessarily weight. If you lose fat, build more muscle and end up weighing slightly more that's OK isn't it.

You more than likely don't want to lose weight as much as inches. 150 lbs of fat looks very different than 150 lbs of muscle. Having more muscle will help you lose fat quicker but according to the scale yes you will gain weight but look better.

this is kind of a trick question because it can do both at the same time. muscle does weigh more than fat so by gaining muscle you might weigh more...however it also helps burn fat for energy so in the end depending on your weight to begin with you might be heavier but look leaner and more toned

You gain the weight of your newly acquired muscles and lose the weight of your lost body fat.

muscle weighs more than fat and that's a proven fact. constant movement will help to maintain your current weight. cut back on sfoods like pasta and bread in the afternoon. if you have these first thing in the morning you are gearing your body up to burn more fat. check with your doctor for a diet that works best for you. personally I have to burn more calories than I take in to lose weight, simple diet and 30 minutes or less don't do it fro me. - good luck.
