Typically you would call your local animal controll people (sometimes called the dog catcher). The other option is to contact your local ASPCA. If nothing else, they can further advise you. If you were physically attaced by a dog and injured (broken skin, bleeding) then you should call the local police first. They will then decide who else to call in. You might also want to talk to a lawyer, depending on the seriousness of the attack (if you had to get medical attention after the attack).

In the U S A ---the police would be the call to make
even if this attack was against another animal and no human victum was involved--- they are the ones that have to make the assesment of the situation and if the animal control has to be called in (which they more than likely will be) or any other procedure --- they will be the ones to determine THAT !!

What did the dog attack? A person, a dog, a different animal?
1. Animal Control
2. Police
3. A doctor (or emergency room if the person is seriously injured)
4. A vet (if another domesticated animal is hurt.)
5. A wildlife refuge (If a wild species is injured.)
6. A lawyer (depending on who's animal it was.)

First off, to the idiot who guessed it was a Pit Bull, just be quiet. I own 2 'pitbulls' and one Pitbull/rotti cross, none of them would hurt a fly. Clearly you know nothing about the breed.
Call the Humane Society or the Police if it's severe.

Animal control and the police. The animal will need to be confined and or examined by a vet. to assure it does not have rabies.

Your city's animal control office. If your city does not have one, call your local police department.

The owner of the dog first, if this isn't feasable, call your local SPCA for more information.
