I agree you should call your vet as I have never raised Chi's. BUT there is a shampoo offered by Drs Foster & Smith (they have a website online) that is okay to use on lactating mothers and very young puppies. I used it on a rescue litter once and it worked well, however using a flea comb while bathing is easiest AND don't let the pups be exposed to fleas again or you will have to re-treat.

They are definitely too young for regular flea and tick shampoos. You could try the dish soap idea that someone mentioned above. I've never tried it, but it'll be a lot cheaper than anything you buy from the vet if it works. Otherwise, you'll have to talk to the vet to get something that is gentle enough for a dog that young.

Good luck

Do not put any flea medication on the puppies or else you will kill them. However, if they are not treated, they may die or become severely ill from the flea infestation as well. The fleas need to be professionally treated by the vet because they are so young. I wish there were other options, but there are not.

they are too young you cant put flea stuff on them or the mom but here is what ya can do. give the mom a bath in lemon dishwashing lquid. i use lemon joy. and then take a baby wipe to the pups then dry them with a put some frangrance free baby oil on the pups and rub off the excess with a dry towel fleas hate baby oil make sure to keep it away from their nose and mouth. after they are 3 weeks old you can bath them. i have raise 3 chihuahua's from birth and you have to be careful with them because they can get sick real easy and also if you handle the pups to much the mother may stop feeding them.

No do not put flea medicine on puppies. It says on the bottle not to use on puppies, this is because it is actually a poison that is used to kill the fleas..One way is to shampoo with children's shampoo and leave on for five minutes. The shampoo will not hurt their eyes, and the shampoo can be left on long enough to kill the fleas. Use a fine tooth comb to comb them out of their fur.You also need to wash the mama dog this way too. That way the pesticides in flea wash will not affect the puppies milk. The fleas can make them anemic and sick or they can die if you do not get them off of them, and the mama dog.

I'd agree--- CALL the vet and ask. They'll probably not insist on your bringing them all in and billing you for it... If one vet won't help, call another, and then go to the one who helps you on the phone when it comes time to get their shots etc.
Don't forget to wash all the bedding too--- and maybe clean the box they're staying in really well too. Fleas are miserable to get rid of, and will hide out in cracks etc.
Good luck!

Go down to the local vets and ask them, so that you can get professional advice. Someone on this site might know the answer and be right. But most people will be just guessing. Poor pups, good luck!
