I would say that he would walk 5ft and grab it. That is since he is one a leash and not a chain. A leash is most often associated with a person being on the other end and not an inanimate object such as a fence post or a tree.

the dog is tied to a tree he is the full length of his leash , 15 feet from the tree, the bone is 5 feet from the tree on the other side of the tree, he walks 15 feet to the tree and 5 feet past the tree (20 ft) to get his bone.
He is on a 15 foot leash which means he 30 feet of leeway from one side of the tree to the other, 30 feet being the diameter of the circle he can travel

he is 10 ft out on his leash already, so he walks backwards for a total of 20 ft to the bone... he could also be 15 ft out on his leash and walk backwards 20 ft and be only 5 ft out on his leash... he just walks in he opposite direction 20 ft from where he is standing

The Leash is just on, it isnt tied on to anything but the dog.
So he can just go 5 ft. And get his bone

Here are some answers I can think of:
-The dog is big; his body can stretch another 5 feet.
-The dog pulls the person down to stretch the other 5 feet.
