I think they're weird, too. They are better ways to kill time. Exercise, read, shop.

1. Going to church doesn't equate with forgiveness.
2. If someone claims to believe in God, but refuses to do as He commands, he's a liar and a hypocrite. Personally, I'd have more trust in a satan worshiper who practices what he preaches than a Christian who goes to church ritualistically just once a week.
3. You want weird? How about all these "conservative" politicians who claim to be religious, but who live contrary to the precepts of their faith? Now I'd call that wierd!

People go to church 2/3 times a week for spiritual strength. For example, a bodybuilder goes to the gym to lift weights in order to build muscles. Christians go to church to build their "faith" muscles. Christians need to be constanly feed the word of God so they can grow spiritually. Christians will not grow spiritually by going to church once a week. Do a person eat once a week? No! Do a world class boxer work out one day a week? No! Did Michael Jordan work out one day a week when he was a NBA champion! No! It takes commentment and steadfastness to be the best at whatever you do!

In a nutshell, Christians are not going for forgiveness, but for strength.

Right now we are in 40 days of Lent leading up to Pascha (Easter). There is a church service every night for 2 weeks.

Not everyone goes to church simply for forgiveness. Some people go for the worship and to be around other worshippers.

I don't go to church for forgiveness. I already have that. I go to church because my love for God is so strong that I want to get to know Him more and more so that my personal relationship grows deeper and deeper.

I have learned how to love people better and how to let go of resentments, bitterness, offenses and have learned to forgive. My marriage is stronger now than it ever has been because I started doing my marriage God's way, not mine. Actually, every area of my lie is more peaceful and manageable than it used to be. So I guess I must be learning something, huh?

Be blessed.

You don't go to church for forgiveness. Forgiveness is one-time event. One goes to church to worship among an assembly, as God's word directs.

I don't go to Church for "forgiveness" - I go to WORSHIP with my brothers and sisters in Christ. It is "family" time and a great blessing. To say its "weird" to go more than 2/3 times a week is like saying it is "weird" to go to the dinner table for a meal with your family more than 2/3 times a week. You would get pretty hungry if you didn't eat more than that.

You are making an assumption that they are going to church to get foregiveness. They may go to church for other reasons -- to worship God, they go because it's a place where they feel close to God, they go because they want to pray and being in church gives them a place that is quiet and helps them concentrate, they may go because church feels peaceful or they may simply go to church because they enjoy church.

In the Bible it said that Jesus only went to Church one time per week, and that was only for one hour.

I feel that Jesus would rather see you help your neighbor than to attend church.
