If so, do you like it?

Greetings,

Before you spring a bunch of money on the very small (and very good) Canon HV-10, check out the brand new HV-20. I have heard to amazing things about the HV-20. The HV-10 the smallest HDV camcorder out there right now, but the HV-20 has some features that put it at the top of the list for casual home users.

One being that is has a native 1920 by 1080 CMOS chip. Secondly, it does 24P!! This is a good thing!

First of all, do you have the power to go HD? HDV requires at least a 3.4 ghz processor with 1gb of ram, or a dual-core 1.6 ghz processor and a gig of ram, if you plan on editing. Remember, this is the minimum. If you don't plan on editing, go ahead, get it, but note that you will have to watch with your camera plugged into your TV. Even if you edit, you will still probably have to do that, unless you have a blu-ray burner and player. A blu-ray burner costs about $1000, and the cheapest player, the PS3, costs $600. Blank blu-ray discs cost about $20-$30. As for burning HD DVDs, it will be several hundred dollars cheaper, but holds less than blu-ray discs. If you're not concerned about hooking your camera to your tv to watch video and the difficulty of editing, then get it. But note that canon is releasing the hv20 in april, which is an upgrade to the HV10. Also note that HDV is still a new format, and as with all new technology, allowing time to get the bugs sorted out and buying later, than sooner is often better than buying sooner than later. Hope this helps!

do a google search to find reviews of the HV-10. Also check websites of online retailers: some include customer comments (amazon.com, circuitcity.com, crutchfield.com are but a few, although these may not necessarily carry the HV-10)
