i'm a surgical intern so i'm going to take this from a clinical stand point.

if it's your gall bladder, the pain should be right under your right breast and could radiate to your right shoulder and backside. many people experience these gallbladder attacks anywhere from the time they eat to a few hours later.
you should go and see a general surgeon affliated with your local hospital. they'll ask you to get some ultrasounds and a nuclear test which is when they run nuclear medicine in an iv and calcuate the gallbladder output. after these tests.. your surgeon will be able to identify the problem.

ibs should not be causing you these pains.
if you want to take drastic measures.. eat the greasiest thing you can find.. wait for the attack and land in the ER.. where i'm sure you will be treated immediately..
though if you want to wait around.. just choose a diet of low cholestrol foods and stay away from spicy and greasy foods.

best of luck~

What a gallbladder problem felt like for me was a very painful cramp that there was no way to strech. It started about 3 hours after I ate and would continue for 30 minutes to 7 hours. Have them do a scan of your liver and gallbladder. It will show if you have any stones blocking the duct, trapped in the line, or if it is already inflamed because one has passed. Be persistant I was in the hospital twice for 3 days each before they figured out what was wrong with me.

Where is the pain exactly located? Right under your rib cage or in your lower stomach? Usually one experiences gallbladder pain after eating greasy foods....perhaps also relating to gall-stones or if you are constantly constipated, you may be lacking fiber in your daily diet. I suffered from constipation and also was tested for HP pylori, which is a bacteria that lives in our stomach and can cause ulcers. I started a colon cleanse treatment and I have to say, it is the best thing I have done for my self. Go to www.drnatura.com to get all the info. I would definitely get an ultrasound done first, if your pain persists. A simple blood test may not give you the correct diagnosis.

What you are describing as symptoms could point to gallbladder, crones disease, allergy etc. The emergency room is for immediate treatment and stabilization of a patient, most doctors staffing an ER are GP'S or emergency med specs. I would recommend that you make an appointment with a gastroenterologist (digestional tract doctor). Good Luck

all i have to say if it's your gallbladder, make sure they do a thourough on the liver as well...usually gallbladder disease is a sign that somethings wrong with the liver. (like food poisoning or a viral infection of some sort).

good luck

p.s. it could also be gastrointeritis too.....(i had that when i was a teen and it sucked.....) years later, gallbladder out, only to find out a few years after that i had liver disease all that time! (nash and hcv!)

your gallbladder is on your right side, just under your ribs or right below. If you have pain that feels like a stabbing pain in your right side, through to your back, thats usually gallbladder pain. ( I had mine out in 93, so I know the pain and the feeling). Usually the pain starts when you eat really spicey or greasy food.

It sounds like your Dr was right...didn't they give you a diet to follow ??? They have meds for IBS now....
