pot is not addictive. you make it seem like it is...mentally. you can stop anyday. and i am not just speaking out of my ***. it is easier to say it than to do it, but come on... its not like you have been smoking for over 30 years and then you decide to stop. THAT is difficult. but smoking pot is not fun at all... what do you do when you get stoned, just laugh at stupid things and be lazy... its incredibly boring to hang around somebody who's stoned..trust me. So you want to do something for fun everyday? life isn't about having fun everyday buddy.... there's more to life than just 'fun.' sure you can have fun sometimes, go out fishing, camping, exercising with a friend, SPORTS, boating and stuff like that... they are all fun and they dont include getting high and being dumb. and your friend wants you to smoke pot with them everyday? find new friends. if your friend started doing crack cocaine, acid, and all that other junk, would you do it too? i think you would if you continue to be buddies. that is a very good way to stop smoking pot.
and u cant quit cold turkey style. try smoking once a day, to once every other day, once every 2 days, once every 3 days... well you get my drift.
good luck

You need to stop hanging out with this friend. Even if this is only temporary, it will keep you from being tempted. I quit after smoking several times a day for about four years. I had to spend some time away from my friends, but they were understanding. Now it has been almost 2 years and I can hang out with them while they smoke with no problem. As for the boredom, I concentrated on school and work. It might also help to get a job (or work more hours) or get a hobby. Since you are trying to impress the ladies, you might want to get into lifting weights or something like that. Good luck. And remember - everything is okay in moderation.
P.S. Just because pot isn't physically addictive, it can be mentally addictive - any behavior can. Gambling is a good example of a mentally addictive behavior.
In response to YoYoMama:
No causal evidence of pot causing psychotic episodes exists. It could be that those who are more likely to be schizophrenic are also more likely to smoke pot - that only proves correlation, not causation. Many people with mental disorder self-medicate with drugs.

If your willpower isn't strong enough the ONLY thing you can do is anything and everything when you're sober to keep it away from you. I smoked and then I moved and knew nobody and HAD to go cold turkey. That would have been the only way I would ever have stopped and it's the only way I'm telling you.
If your friend doesn't support him, cut him loose. It's very addictive!!

Sounds like you don't have any responsibilities. If you had school to go to or a job or a pet you had to take care of, it wouldn't be so hard to quit. Get involved with something. One of the first things you can do is seek out a Narcotics Anonymous meeting. They don't have to be in person you can find chatrooms on the net and tell your story as well as listen to others. Some of the best advice comes from other addicts.

Pot really isn't particularly addictive. Honestly! Give it up if you want to give it up. Mind over matter. Make a decision that you won't do illegal drugs anymore, PERIOD. And then don't.
You don't have to do something everyday for fun either...but plan fun activities periodically with the $$$ you're saving. Trips, camping, theme park, whatever!
You'll find your self-confidence building on it's own. Sounds like you're pretty young, you've got a lot of growing to do yet. Welcome to the trials and tribulations of life!!!
Good luck with kicking the habit. You can do it.

Realize that you're losing money and making yourself more stupid with every puff. Regular marijuana use can lead to chronic anxiety, personality disturbances, and depression.
Also it has recently been linked to increasing the likelihood of producing psychotic episodes. It also increases the likelihood of getting SCHIZOPHRENIA ealier in life in susceptible individuals, and getting it at all in people who otherwise would not. Personally, with that sort of risk, I wouldn't want to even touch the stuff (and thank God, I haven't :).
The more you weigh the evidence, the more you see that drugs are bad news, period. Have you also considered that the money you use to buy the drugs doesn't exactly go to the Salvation Army? It goes to people who use it to increase lawlessness, commit crimes, and generally ruin other people's lives (either directly by the drug dealers' abuses or inderectly by the drugs' harmful effects on the lives of not only the users but also their familes and friends). Drugs are bad news period. See links below for the Schizophrenia information.
PS--have you considered *anonymously* calling the cops on your dealer(s)? If you cut out the source of the temptation you will find it easier to quit!

Get new friends and cut off your dealers...Worked for me my Sophmore year, I'm a once in a blue moon smoker now. Every couple months or so I'll take a hit from someone else.

cut off dealers
start hanging out with other friends who don't smoke, you can hang out with your best friend, just not during times where you guys would usually smoke.
do something that might make you busy, video games, sports, martial arts
or if you're just desperate to stop, tell your parents. I'm sure THEY'll do something to make you stop.
