There has been many cases like that, I say that because nobody knows that the Navy has sent over 15,000 sailors to do some ground pounding in Iraq as we speak. The program is called "Individual Augmentee". About 65% of those sailors actually volunteered. The rest that did not volunteer are selected based on their rank and NEC and cannot refuse without some kind of punishment.
There goes joining the Navy and believing you wont be shot at.

It is called Active Duty. If you are middle or low income, you will get AD. This is a fact of war that has been true for centuries. Use to be Bloodlines get get you in a war, now they can get you out of Active Duty on the Front.
The Rulers will not allow a Prince to be killed in battle for that would raise the ire of a nation for a time and a time again. Blood and Money are the stuff of Wars. Sometimes, not any that I was alive to witness, but I have been told about a truly evil man in Europe that did not like others. Lotta people went to that party.

The only branch that will guarantee your job in your contract is the army and even then if you don't make it through the school you would get a different job. I was in the Marines and I knew a few guys who had signed up for certain jobs and once they were out of boot camp they got sent to a different school then they thought they were going to.

What I always tell someone is that once you pick your job that you like, your job is guarenteed in writing as long as you stay physicall, morally and mentally qualified. I have heard some branches forcing you out of what you signed up for when you are in basic or initial training. I have not come across anyone in my branch that I have signed up that has had this problem. I hope this helps.

Derek I don't know of anytime that that has happened. When you go to MEPs you sit down with a counselor and put in writing what you will be doing while serving. If for any reason they deviate from that contract it is my impression that you could ask to be discharged (essentially walk away from that military) if you wanted to.
ask a recruiter, although they will probably tell you no

Once you join you will be sent to your AIT advance individual training However; if you fail it you will be reclassed. The military is always doing it's best to train you in the career you choose and if yuou apply yourself you should pass your tests and get the job you like. i will say though no job is "SAFE" in the armed servises.
