For the next four months you are extremely fertile, be careful or the kids will come in bunches

Theoretically, remember that ANY time you have sex, pregnancy could happen. Breastfeeding can be a form of birth control, but it has some prerequisities: you have to be breastfeeding full time, including night feeding, with no supplements (formula, water, baby food) and little to no pacifier use. Baby must get all sucking needs met by mom. (Quite frankly this is what God and nature intended, but that's beside the point!) When all those things are true, nursing can serve as a 98% effective form of birth control, equal to effectiveness of the pill when taken correctly. SO, if you are NOT Exclusively breastfeeding, and are NOT using any other form of birth control, it is possible to get pregnant that soon, though unlikely, as most women haven't gotten around to ovulation yet at that point. Any bleeding during the first 56 days after deliver is considered locchia, anything after is a period and once you start those, you're fertile again. There's a mom in my mom's group who got pregnant when her first child was 2 months old, so it can happen.

Yes it's a very fertile time for a woman. Once your ovaries recieve the hormone they need to release an egg(which happens right after birth) they tend to release multiple eggs for a few months until your hormones get back in order. Breastfeeding decreases the chances a little bit, but not much. All breastfeeding does is decrease the amount of that particular hormone, it's still present. As to birth control, you need to use condoms, period. It'll help w/ lubrication, and a doctor will not give you BC pills or the depo shot until you have a regular cycle. My brat is 9 weeks old, so I was just figuring this all out myself. Good luck!

Possible but unlikely. Breastfeeding acts as a kind of natural birth control, and the fact that you haven't started your periods yet also indicates you probably won't get pregnant.

You should cnsult your doctor regarding contraceptives. Different people have their own preferences. Injectable contraceptives have an advantage over the oral kind in that you don't have to take them every day, so you're less likely to forget.

If u don't want to be changing diapers and preparing to give birth all over again then u should consider the patch. It's a form of birth control for women and u can wear it anywhere and chances are u won't get pregnant.

Yes. At least let your body rest after giving birth or you may be stress yourself if you get pregnant too soon. Can you wait at least the full 6 weeks.

My ob/gyn told me that when you are breastfeeding there isn't as high of a risk of getting pregnant, but because you don't get a period you don't know if you are ovulating. Just use a contraceptive to be on the safe side. The progestin only pill that you have to take when you breastfeed gave me migraines.
