for a the past year my hair has been gradually getting more damaged, thinner and shorter. in august i started a new treatment and it helped with the damage and the thickness, but my hair isnt any longer. to make matters worse, my hair grows faster onone side than the other so its REALLY uneven. i need a trim, but i know the beautician if just gonna chop off all my hair to make it even. please help. right now my hair is to like the middle of my neck in the back and the short side of my hair is at like my eyebrows.

...get that trim and specify to the beautician that you don't want it cut to be even but rather you just want your ends clipped and watch what she does, don't be afraid to say if she's not doing what you desire with your hair...
...I think it seems to not be growing because you are looking frequently to check the growth ...just keep taking care of it and it will take care of you in return and don't expect to see results over night ...also inquire about products that will help stimulate growth when you see the beautician...

GO NATURAL!!! nappy is the way to be! :)
But in all seriousness, if your hair is breaking off that badly, you need to clip your ends, (evenly!) otherwise it'll only be a never ending cycle. From what you said, if it's cut evenly, it'll be pretty short but I recommend doing just that if you want to get back on the path to healthy hair.
What you can do, after you cut and it's short, is keep it braided-- cornrows with or without extensions, tracks... but NO MICROS!! That would be the worst thing you could do b/c they're so unhealthy for your hair. Also, I'd recommend for about 2-4 months after The Cut that you "go natural". Meaning, no dyes, no texturizers and def no relaxers. It'll give your hair just a little extra something to get it on the road to recovery quicker.
(aside: Trust me, it'll seem like your hair isn't growing AT ALL if you're not getting relaxers but Nappy Roots (:P) are deceptive! What you see is nowhere near what you get! When I straighten my natural hair, its 4-5x longer than what it seems kinky!)
Good luck!!

keep clipping your ends and stick to a regular deep conditioning regimen. do you have any scalp problems? you may need to see your derm if so. Also, the hairstyles that you wear might be causing your hair to be longer on one side than the other. the stylist may do a lot of cutting because it has gotten so uneven...u don't want to walk around with uneven, damaged-looking hair? if cutting scares you, trust me it makes a big difference in how healthy your hair looks. then you can start the growing process from there.

I am a trained hairstylist and I recommend that you get it cut to even it out..... this will help by getting rid of the damaged hair that is breaking off anyway . You will have a frest start at growing it again......... If you have been relaxing or doing jeri curls then stop that for awhile until your hair is strong enough to handle the strong chemicals used to do these procedures................ make sure you only use salon shampoos and conditioners too>>> this really does make a difference. Good luck to you and I hope you consider my advice ........... hair stylist in Canada
