Well, it certainly depends on what you're trying to accomplish.
Sometimes I read the Bible for inspiration.
Sometimes I read math books because they're fun and educational (one of my degrees is "Computational Mathematics"...woohoo!).
Sometimes I read law books (a hobby).
Sometimes I read a scientific book (good to learn new stuff).
Sometimes I read Y!A (don't have any idea why!)
It all depends on what your needs are at the moment. No pat answer.

Listening to my pastor about the holy book. A scientific journal is written by man and mostly about his or her ideas.

MY answer would be: Listen to the paster for spiritual nourishment. We need that. I read scientific journal for something that is outside the spirituality. I have to separate science from religion because they are different from each other, such that two parallel lines that won't meet.

I would listen to the Pastor without question. The Word of the Living God is spirit and it is life. May God Bless U.

since you mock the religious side, I suggest you color inside the lines.
The Bible has the solutions to the world's problems, including yours. But since you don't seek, neither shall you find.

thats where Christianity went wrong. they separated science with religion and make them parallel. and the churches killed those scientists who came up with new invention, as saw them as threats to religion.
science and religion are supposed to combined together. religion completed science and make it meaningful, while science is where religion applies
