SSRI antidepressants take a while to kick in. 4 weeks should be about right. However, that doesn't mean you won't feel anxious anymore. It just helps control it a little better. Talk to your doctor or find a psychologist and look into Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). It helps you to recognize why you're reacting the way you are, and to help change some of those skewed perceptions.
Hope I could help.

I've been taking it for about 3 days and the doctor told me that with prozac it may take about 12 weeks for it to reach its full effect. She also told me to come back in 3 weeks to see if there is any improvement and she will probably increase the doseage. She started me on 20 mg and said then I will be increased to 40 and eventually as high as 80 mg depending on how well is seems to work and what I can tolerate. I'm also taking .5mg of Xanax Xr twice a day to help with the anxiety along with it. Good luck!

That is what I am on. If you do not feel enough of a difference, go back to your doctor and tell them that you think you need a higher dosage. I'm actually doing that exact thing in about a week or so. I felt the effects of it in less than 4 weeks, so if you feel NOTHING different, you need to talk to your doctor.
You may even need another drug. It's hit and miss sometimes. Good luck.

It could take longer than 4 weeks for it to start working.

4 weeks isn't long enough for Prozac to do it's thing--- but you may want to call your doctor-- you may need something like Xanax or Ativan to take inbetween until the Prozac kicks in----good luck--I too suffer from panic attacks and severe anxiety--- I can relate--(I'm on Klonopin)

You need to discuss this with your doc. He will ask you if it is helping at all and if you are having side effects etc and then he will decide what you best option is. Call your doc tomorrow and talk to his nurse and the doc will get back to you.
