I support the idea of armchair soldiers going over to Iraq and go support or troops.

My cousin is a Marine in the Iraq war and he hates all the fake "support the troops bs" and he feels that anyone that supports the war should go and fight.

It's not about not fighting. I'm simply stating that as long as we don't have a draft, if you are between and 35 and you support the war then you should fight. It's as simple as that. What more is there to explain?

Don't you think that your question is just plain tired? Hasn't just about everyone who doesn't support the war asked that same dumb question? Let me guess, you want the president's daughters to go over there as well, right?
Well, many of the people over in Iraq support the war, many here who support it cannot due to age or other circumstances beyond there control.
How about those that do support the war, be allowed to volunteer to join a branch of the armed services and fight. Oh yeah, thats what is happening, they all volunteered.
If they institute a draft, like has been proposed by democrats twice since the war began, then maybe your question will have merit. Otherwise, why don't you go outside and pull the "Al Gore won in 2000" bumper-sticker off of your Prius and start campaigning for Obama because he is the first quality Democrat that has a chance for office in a long, long time and help make some changes to this messed up country instead of posting snide questions on Yahoo that accomplish nothing except point out how unoriginal you are.

Since you post nothing in your "About me" I believe you're just walking around with a big spoon looking for something to stir up.
If your cousin really is in the Marines and assigned to iraq I seriously doubt he feels the way you say he does. Hate the supporters of troops? He may disagree with the policies of the fighting, as do many, but he surely wouldn't wish that same fighting upon anyone.
I spent time in the sandbox under George Senior, and I "supported" in Hatti, Somalia, Panama, and Grenada and I had it easy compared to lots of the "fighting" soldiers! What I saw was not something I would care to have shown to my family! Let alone have them experience it!!
Get a life, be in it - join the Peace Corps... if you can qualify.

why? a majority of the country supports the troops, we have plenty of troops over there and they'll all be out for the most part by the end of 2010 and prob past the end of 2008 will be a lot of specialist like special forces and military trainers

No disrespect to your cousin, but the United States government didn't put a gun to his head and made him join the Marines. Sometimes in all our jobs weather it is Military, Law enforcement or Politics we have to do the jobs that no one else will or can do. We choose the careers that we are in and sometimes you have to do things that you don't want to do. I will always support our troops no matter what war our country is in. I will also will support the President and the government for making the tough decision on going to war or not. I wish there were ways to peacefully end conflicts in this world but it isn't going to happen. You will always have dictators like Hitler and Suddam running weak countries like Iraq and Germany and when those dictators do become in power to those countries they start looking to add more dictatorship accross the world. If it wasn't for All the wars that our ansestors been in we wouldn't have a country and we wouldn't be speaking English or be able to speak freely without the fear of getting killed for speaking out. I think I can safely say no one wants a war and I mean no one. Only insane idiots like Hitler, Suddam and terrorists want wars and the greatest thing to help them win there battles is by arguing with each other weather we should be at war or not. I feel once a decision has been made that we are going to war then it is final no more bullshit talk about if we should be in war or not, until after the war is finished. But one thing I don't want to hear people say that are against the war is unintellegent excuses that we shouldn't be in this war because innocent lives are being taken. Reason being, that shouldn't be the reason we shouldn't be going to war, Because no matter what war had or going to happen in this world or country there will always be innocent lives taken weather it is military lives or Civilian lives. Now I wasn't around to know what was all going on in the Vietnam war other than UN was trying to stop Communist from taking over but in this war I feel we went in with the right mindset but the wrong strategy and what I mean by that is once the President Bush said lets go to war in Iraq he should've left the military strategy up to the Generals after making the decision. That was the biggest mistake we made in this war and we are paying for it. Besides if it wasn't for the UN deciding against entering Iraq to take control the first time in the early 90's, we wouldn't be talking about the Iraq war and capturing Suddam. But it isn't too late. If Bush stays out of this war and let the Generals have 100% control of the situation of the war, then the war will end in a positive way. To me there are times Politics do come into play and there are other times they don't. Once a war starts all Politic decisions should be out the window and win the war the best way that the war can be won and the Generals know how to do that quickly, safely and cost efficently for the tax payers. For your cousin, I feel for him and understand that his life is on the line not mine, but Military is about being a team together on that war field and everyone depends on each other. The last thing his fellow military officers need is his distractions on how he feels about the war. If he doesn't want to be in the military to protect his country then he needs to get out and choose another career. I know I would do that as a Correction Officer working in a Prison. I like my job but I don't want someone that doesn't want to be there because my life and every other Correction Officer depends on each other to look out for one another and if I have an officer saying he don't want to be there anymore I ask him or her kindly to find another job because I want to go home everyday. Anyone else who is in law enforcement or military would more likely agree with that thinking. I don't want our country to go to war but I will support it weather I felt it was a good or bad decision. Because once the decision on going to war is made and the war starts it no longer matters what I feel. The only thing that matters is win this war as quickly and least casualties as possible and thank those that did sacrifice thier lives for this country. Because they will never be forgotten and they will always be Heroes in my book everytime.

Wow, that's shooting from the hip.
It's like saying everyone who supports environmental groups should walk to work, or any one who supports abortion should become a doctor, etc....etc......
Simply put, not all of the supporters are eligible - I am a Viet Nam veteran (1968-69) and a tad too old now to re-enlist, but I strongly support our efforts to put an end to the Islamic terrorists and their murdering tactics and demented ideology.
I am much more concerned with people who do not support our effects.

(Has it ever occurred to you just how lame this sort of question sounds to a veteran?)

I would love to. Unfortunately my health (peripheral neuropathy is one thing) won't allow me.
My husband is active duty Army....and I don't know it would be a great idea for me to go (if my health allowed) as we have 4 children - and none of our families would be able to handle them.

What war are you talking about? And if you take the time to answer that question, would you mind elaborating on the ramifications of not fighting at all? Thank you for you future lucid post on this subject.
