Well, it wouldn't be out of character for the God of Abraham to use the flu as divine judgment against casual contact with fellow humans.

And I've always wondered about mosquitos too. Maybe God didn't get quite enough of blood sacrifices before Jesus came along?

Without meaning to sound insulting to anyone or disrespectful, if you believe in that god is supposed to have always existed, wouldn't it stand to some reason that he would be bored now and then and simply do things for his own amusement?

I don't think the flu has any significance, either religiously or otherwise, just one way to build up our immune systems so we can lead longer lives, unlike the 30 -40 years less than 500 years ago.

There is an excellent lesson in something as "simple" as having the flu. Your recovery time is based on how well you take care of your body. If you take WEEKS to recover from something as simple as the flu - even a bad strain - your body (but probably God) is telling you to take better care of yourself.

God explanation (thought-terminating explanation): He wants to see how we fare through trials. OR we are not allowed to judge His actions or decisions.

Natural Selection explanation (consciousness-raising explanation): The flu is a natural selection mechanism to kill off the weaker of the species, thus leaving the stronger ones to reproduce and pass their strong genes on to the next generation.

trials and temptations are a way of life, not that God puts things on us. Sickness is not of God. God will hold our hand through experiences and deliver us in times of danger. Our faith will never develop if it is never put to the test and that is why God will allow certain things in our lives, but He never put them there.

now dont start blaming God for illness. Hello people its life. life comes with its ups and down and prices like death, diseases, illnesses, but there are more ups like miracles, newborns, etc. and flu is just a sickness people get in life. no need to blame it on God. it aint his fault. its just life.

That was the result of Eve (first) and Adam's sin of eating the forbidden fruit. That, of course, is why women have to bare labor pains when they have children. This original sin is the reason for all of life's unpleasantries.
