I honestly never even heard of Gilgamesh before tonight. I just thought it was so interesting and a little concerned that I was the only one who'd never heard the story before.

Yes, it is a Babylonian story that predates the Biblical account. It was adopted by the Israelites during their captivity in Babylon and is the basis for the story of Noah.

in case you ever study the Epic of Gilgamesh you would understand that it became written in historical Akkadian which pre-dates even the Babylonians. The e book of Moses (Genesis) became written 1000's of years later and spanned generations. additionally, while Gilgamesh is in his boat he stops at different cities alongside the path the place human beings have been nevertheless residing. with the aid of some calculations, it took Noah one hundred twenty years to construct the ark. If he had "accrued" 2 from each and each species there might have been generations of animal delivery and deaths throughout that factor. for my area, i do no longer think interior the quite long existence thoughts from the Bible. A calendar year is measured many techniques in countless cultures. there's a raffle that none of them knew a year became 300 and sixty 5 days with the aid of our measurements. July and August weren't even interior the Roman calendar till the Caesars...July for Julius and August for Augustus. IMO, the epic became no longer a prophesy. on a similar time as there could be a impressive style of "scientific evidence" that a flood happened I definitely tend to disagree it became "international-huge" (all of sudden) based on the undeniable fact that there is no longer adequate water to encapsulate the full Earth. i think of evidence of sea shells in alpine areas have extra to do with lava flows originating on the tectonic plates which at last "improve" on a similar time as colliding (maximum mountain tiers have been formed throughout this variety).
