It doesn't matter what I cook. I just have to cook all kinda naked, save for a little old pinny to cover my blushes.

What for ? a starter or a meal? As you list these together it sounds like a choice you make as an accompaniment to a meat and chips type dish. I must admit if I am eating out then I would probably avoid both unless I really knew how good the chef was.
Chances are the mushrooms will be out of a tin or if fresh they won't have been cooked properly and will be wilted ,watery and tasteless.
The onion rings will probably be those aw-full frozen things out of a packet and will arrive greasy and soggy as they have stood for ages.If it was an Italian restaurant ,then mushrooms as an antipasti or something as I know they can cook these properly.
At home I do sometimes cook onion rings but it is a bit of a messy procedure and you can't eat too many before they sit heavily in your stomach and make you feel sick,
Now mushrooms are something else. The Flavour! The Choice!Ordinary button or field mushrooms are great but then there are Chestnut, Chanterelles,Oyster and Shitake.I really adore a Sunday morning fry up with bacon and mushrooms cooked in butter in a very hot pan very quickly so no liquid comes out, salt and black pepper.Lovely!
Then the exotic ones go great in a Chinese stir fry or in a Thai sweet and sour soup.
My biggest passion though is to go out in autumn to the woods on a Funghi hunt with a big basket and return to cook some with bacon for breakfast or put in an Italian mushroom salad. The great thing is you never know quite what you are going to find so the final result is always a pleasant surprise. Some Chanterelles and Blewitts taste really good.
A word of warning though, it is important to positively identify them using a good text book to avoid a stomach upset. The deadly poisonous ones are few ( Amanita Phalloides - Death Cap being the one to watch out for) and are easy to identify.
So you can see for me mushrooms are just sooo good!

That depends on how the mushrooms are made.
I make my stuffed ones with bacon, crabmeat, onions, parmesan, and smoked gouda. Tempura and breaded fried mushrooms are delicious.
But sometimes, nothing beats a batch of freshly fried onion rings!
