I just had my little girl spayed and declawed 2 days ago. I know its gonna take some time and i got pain meds for her im giving them like clock work so she wont suffer. But im wondering how long till she will start feeling like her old self? I feel so bad. I think what i did was for the best but i feel bad thats shes in pain. Dont get me wrong shes not overly hurting just sore. How long till she will be back to normal?

ya know it be much easier if they didnt require your cats to be declawed to live at some places. My building wouldnt let me have her unless i declawed her. SO regaurdless how i felt id rather haver her nails free than not and she still had her claws. I hate it when people respond wit uppity answers not knowing the full situation. PLEASE COME DOWN OFF YOUR HIGH HORSE BEFORE YOU GET A NOSE BLEED!!!!!!!

That depends on the cat and her age. Younger cats tend to adjust more quickly than older ones. (they're lighter on their feet!) It will take 10 days to 2 weeks for her to start feeling a lot better and it may take several months to adjust to the declaw, completely. One of my cats sat on his back legs for 6 months after he was declawed although he didn't seem to be in pain that long. Thank goodness!

The pain medication that you're giving your kitty may also make her seem even more sluggish and sleepy.

Any time from a few days to for ever; many cats never get over being declawed, that's why it's illegal in so many countries! I'm not trying to be mean but I just don't believe in telling white lies either.

Get her kitty litter made from newspaper, or just use shredded newspaper in the box, until you're sure that her paws are healed completely. And keep regularly checking her paws for soreness; a declawed cat can get regrowths at any time, even after months or years, if that happens you'll have to take her in to the vet.

Don't feel bad, Honey. You just saved you both a lot of trouble and a lot more pain than the spaying would have given.

When we took our kitties to have them fixed, the vet reminded us to use shredded newspaper for litter instead of the usual clay for a week. So that would be a pretty safe estimate on how long it will take for your baby girl to feel like her old self again. Just remember to keep an eye on the stitches for inflamation.

Good luck!

It will be very soon! By about the 3rd or 4th day you'll notice a marked improvement!
