Talk about something safe, nothing too personal and nothing too sensitive or touchy. Also, avoid topics where you might clash say religion, politics and other opinions. Start with safe topics like weather or what his/her favorite this and that and talk about the food or their favorite meals if you are eating or having dinner.

Just never stop talkin lol keep the conversation going the first time. If all else fails then keep trying talk about anything. If you start off with a good fun attitude then that's how the conversation will in POSITIVE.

RULE ONE: NEVER EVER EVER break the awkward silence. Let it lie there...have someone else look like an idiot, not you. Or if it gets really reaally awkward, do the awkward turtle where they cant see it :)
