In Hebrew, that phrase means something along the lines of "I am the is-ing". I know that sounds crazy, but it's like God is telling everyone that He is the state of being. He is the definition of life, in other words.

It means that God always was, always is, and always will be. It means simply that He is. Difficult concept to understand because we humans like to make everything so complicated, but it is that simple.
