Surgeon is a general term these days. Medicine has become very specialized because of the amount of knowledged gained over the last many years.
Heart: Cardiac Surgeon
Lungs: Thracic Surgeon
Veins/Arteries: Vascular Surgeon
Transplants: Organ Procurement Team
There are still some small hospitals in some places that do not have any of these specialized doctors and often the one or two surgeons in the area do many different operations. However if the situation is very delicate and serious this patient would be sent to a specialist

Hi. Let's see.. A thoracic surgeon will operate on organs in the chest. Cardio-vascular surgeons specialize on hearts and vessels originating in the heart. Some pulmonologists are surgeons of the lungs but not all. Neuro surgeons crack heads. General surgeons deal with the organs in the abdomen like gall bladder, liver, spleen, gut, some do rectal surgeries, Orthopedic surgeons do bones. Some nephrologists do surgery on the kidneys, but not many of them. ObGyn's will deal with female reproductive surgeries. ENT's deal with surgeries of the ears, nose, and throat. Oral surgeons deal with surgical procedures of the mouth. Maxilo-facial surgeons fix facial and maxilla injuries. There are probably many other types of surgeons and then there are the above surgeons that deal with pediatrics only. Oh yes, and my favorite the trauma surgeon who tries to save lives from horrible car crashes and such and then of course the plastic surgeon that deals with deformities and elective surgeries. Some orthopedic surgeons deal only with hands. I'm done lol Have a healthy year.

General surgeons performed operations that pertain to anything not covered by the specialists like cardiologists, nephrologists, pulmonologists, etc. They usually perform the surgeries that involve the abdominal organs and digestive tract.

The other surgeons are referred to as cardiothoracic surgeons, thoracic surgeons, orthopedic (bones) surgeons, neurosurgeons, etc. Depending on what body system their specialty involves.

Urinary tract+kidneys+genitals =genitourinary or renal, or urologic. Brain+spinal nerves - neuro. There are OB/Gyn surgeons. Ones that specialize in obesity/bariatric surgery. Cosmetic and reconstructive surgery. Cancer. Orthopedic. Etc, etc, etc.
