I was treated for gum disease, I also need to get wisdom teeth pulled out and fillings done but I have only received the gum disease treatment and I have appointments for the other things. This entire treatment is about $6160 and I am now having seconds doubts about this entire amount. I have signed paperwork in order to get the treatment started and follow up with the rest, but I feel hesistant, can I back down on the rest and only get charged for what has been performed? Do I have a right to do this, can the dentist truly deny me this? I am not sure what type of rights I have as a patient, unfortunately I have to do this due to my sister being sick in the hospital and I need to help her out financially so I have to minimize my expenses and I do not think I can fully pay this treatment cost, except for part of it at least. Someone please provide me with some advice because I do not know how to approach my dentist's office about this.

Call and make an appointment to speak either with the dentist or with the office manager (if he/she has one). Explain your situation, and I am sure they will be willing to either:

1) complete the dental treatment and work out a payment plan, or

2) let you pay for services performed and call it a day.

They would much prefer you coming to them prior to receiving the full treatment and discussing your predicament. It is an indication of good will. They will likely respond in kind.

You don't have to pay for ANY service that hasn't been rendered yet. What you signed was an estimate invoice and isn't binding if you decide not to have the work done. They have to give you an estimate so you know what costs you will be looking at. Nothing says you have to have the work done.

They will understand. I just went through this with my dentist.
