fla5232 - The USMC is the smallest of the military services as it is a branch of the Department of the Navy.
In the Air Force, a tattoo can not cover more than 1/4 of an exposed body part. You can keep the body part covered in uniform, but a recruiter might be leery about signing up someone with extreme tattoos. I have 7; 1 being a half sleeve and there is some stigma, but not too much that you can't deal with it.

Obviously, your tattoos can not be of extremist or sexist nature, thats pretty standard. The military does not care how many tattoos you have, as long as they are not visible in your dress uniform, however, they may have relaxed that rule by using what they call "pre-existing" tattoos. If you have them before you enter service, you should be alright, but again, talk to your recruiter and get the hard facts. You can get tattoos while in service, i have gotten many since being in.

There are specific regulations on the type and size of tattoos allowed in the military; you'd best contact your local recruiter for more info. The regulations have changed recently, from not allowing any tattoos, to allowing some visible tatoos.

i believe as long as it is not past your wrist, but that was 7 yrs ago when hubby joined. they recently changed the regulations, so your best bet is to contact your local recruiter. DONT let them talk you into joining, don't give them your name or anything, till you get your answer. AND anywhere you go, you are more than likely going to serve at least 2 tours to iraq. -this is ARMY. don't know what the other military branch regulations are. \
found this on google below! hope it helps!

When I was in the Army the only thing I can remember them saying about tattoo's is not to get any additional ones while you are in. Of course some still did and normally didn't get in any trouble unless it affected their performing duties. You can actually get an article 15 for destruction of government property for getting one while you are in the service.

I know the Marine Corps is cracking down on "sleeves". There was a big article in the Marine Corp Times. Best to ask recruiter.

im not sure about the other branches, but i know that the army just lifted the tattoo policy so as long as you dont have any on your face or anything you would be able to join the army.

air force no because they have strict rules and the smallest force of all branches so their choosy, navy who knows, maybe on a good day you get a waiver, as for marines and army you could most like ly get a waiver, always looking for a few good soldiers

cannot be offensive in any way to any body. So it depends. You'll probably get in even if you do have something offensive but you'll have to get a waiver and it might take longer.
