They sure are trying. They are NOT vigilantes, though vigilantes exist. Most of the Minutemen Organizations require recruits to take an oath that they will follow SOP (Standard Operating Procedure) which includes not interacting with border-crossers at all. They are to call the proper authorities, only.

An exception is the case wherein the health and well-being of a crosser is in immenent danger. In this case, the M.M. can administer first aid, water, encouragement, etc. Some have even taken special courses in dealing with heat exhaustion, etc.

In most cases, MinuteMan volunteers are more aware of the horrible conditions south of the border than anyone who will read this. They care, on a human level. But logic, like Nature, is cruel and must be respected as unconquerable.

So, the M.M's provide cool water and restore health to the illegals and wait for the BP. Some become long-term friends with border-crossers, sharing letters and phone calls. Why? Because they both know the root of the problem: The crossers, though usually good people, are under the thumbs of inept governments. Any government that can squander the talents of 107 million hard working people is beyond my grasp of logical behavior.

The Minutemen are performing a much needed service and calling attention to the problem of illegal immigration. For that, they have my respect. They are not racists, they are American patriots.

The Minutemen are not real Americans. They are a disgrace to this nation. They have no respect for the laws of the United States of America. They tolerated the criminal hiring of "illegal" workers for generations. They do not care at all about this land or our laws. They are bigots who allowed the "illegals" to be here because they could be exploited as a second-class citizenry. They're doing as much as the federal government will allow them.

The Minutemen require all members to subject to a background check in order to ensure people that have an arrest record or have ever been affiliated with any sort of hate group are not allowed to participate in Minutemen activities.


The Minutemen even have standard operating procedures that can be found at http://www.minutemanhq.com/hq/sop.php which state:


1. Minutemen are courteous to everyone with whom they come into contact, and never discriminate against anyone for any reason.

2. Minutemen do not respond to any taunts or harassment from outside agitators, and must never be present for duty or serve in any capacity if intoxicated.

3. Minutemen Observe, Report and Direct Border Patrol or other appropriate emergency or law enforcement agencies to suspected illegal aliens or illegal activities.

4. Minutemen do not verbally contact, physically gesture to or have any form of communications with suspected illegal aliens.

5. Minutemen follow the Standard Operating Procedures to the letter and spirit.

6. Minutemen follow all federal, state and local laws, understanding that we are being held to a higher standard by all.

7. Minutemen understand that, while our actions cannot stop illegal activities along the boarder, we can change world perception and national thought concerning homeland and border security.

8. Minutemen monitor their behavior, the behavior of the people around them and the group as a whole to ensure compliance with the SOP and any instruction given by Minuteman Corps Leadership.

9. Minutemen leave no garbage behind and follow strict pack-in/pack-out procedures.

10. Minutemen respect the property rights of everyone, start no fires, never drive off road, and follow the directions of all law enforcement personnel.

It does not say anything in the minutemen standard operating procedures about "cracking heads" as the article implied. The minutemen seem like a non-confrontational group of individuals who would like everyone to follow Federal, state, and local laws no matter where people are from originally.

I have actually visited the day labor site in Herndon (which will soon be located on the border of Herndon and Loudoun County – FYI) and was shocked to see how many of the cars, trucks, and vans that picked up day laborers did not even have valid license plate stickers, or county tax stickers. I guess if businesses have found they can hire cheap day laborers they have also found it easy to cut other corners as well – such as not paying local taxes to even operate their business vehicles legally.

Wouldn't it be nice if everyone had to follow the laws and pay their taxes? Wouldn't it be nice if there was a group making sure that business owners have all the documentation necessary to legally operate in the area since the state and local government lacks the resources to audit every business?

I applaud the minutemen and their efforts to report those who are not even following the most basic Federal, state, and local laws like ensuring that business and contractor vehicles have up to date state and county tax stickers and are reporting businesses that are not in compliance to the federal, state, and local authorities.
