with $2000 and a credit card, you will be able to buy some very nice souvenirs in any Asian country, even expensive ones like Japan. If you always bring that much, then don't worry about it, unless you stay for a long time.

Nowadays, you can carry less cash, just have your ATM card and credit card and you will do very nicely anywhere in Asia. We are quite modern if you forgot.

It depends on how much you're willing to spend and the exchange rate. I would find out the exchage rate well in advance.
