Well, if you have asthma, no offense but you shouldn't get a dog, I'm sure you'd be a good owner and all, but it be hard for you, you'll probably be the one wanting to play, feed, and take care of it. That will be hard because whenever the dog comes close to you you need to use the inhaler, or when it decides to sleep with oyu you will all be having a asthma attack, so unfortunately it will be better for you and (if you get a dog) and the dogs health (we dont want him to be neglected sometimes when you feel a little breathless and it wants time). Maybe a naked mole rat? fish? turtle? ok well best of luck! If you still want one I dont blame you im I want a dog too but I can get one (yet!). SO how bout going to the dr. or pharmacy and ask for some med. that could help you with your asthma for them, when I do get my dog, my dad will be taking med. too (allergies-but not that bad) so yah ok good luck

asthma is a heridatary disease related to allergies and while it CAN be triggered by the dander from animals you do become accustomed to the particular dog. i have had asthma my entire life and i always will, so will you at some point you have to decide to stop living in a bubble and enjoy life... personally lots of things can trigger your asthma such as running or anything like that you cannot avoid your asthma forever so youd better get used to it

That's a tuff one. Your Dr says only hairless dogs. Do you think it's fair to the dog like your Golden Retriever to become attached to you only to be put up for adoption? I think you need to forget about a dog.

Poodles, Schnauzers, Yorkies, Maltese are few that comes in mind, and any mixes among them.
I'm not trying to minimize your condition, but in reality there are people that have the same one, and also have pets. There are a lot of products out there to help people with allergies, and/or asthma.
I'm sure you can find a way to have a pet. Good luck!

The truth is that there is no true "hypoallergenic" dog....there is no dog that would be "free of allergies" However, you can try other dog breeds like poodle, bichon, yorkie and many more that do not shed, or shed very little.

i have asthma with three dogs that shed VERY MUCH. After a few months i became accustomed to them. Just use an inhaler.

Why not take any meds for the asthma, and go visit or spend time at the humane society. (go a couple times, and if all is fine, then you can work on getting another family pet)

There are other breeds of dogs you can look into that don't bother asthma sufferers. Poodles are one breed - check out this article:
