I bought a sofa and am having it delivered. How much should I tip? How do you casually act to give them the tip, or what do you say when you do?
I did pay a $79 shipping charge
I live on the third floor.
It is a regular 80" sofa, not sleeper sofa.

The last time that I tipped a delivery person, the other two men had already gone out to the truck. I signed for the delivery with the man who seemed to be the boss. I gave him the money and told him to buy his guys lunch.

I am sure he was honest but after he left, I wondered if the other two guys would see any of the $40 I gave him. I know it is hard to divide up $40, but I only had twenty dollar bills and I thought $60 was a bit much to tip after I had paid for the delivery.

I've never tipped for an appliance or furniture delivery. The thought never occurred to me since I had already paid for the shipping charge itself. That should suffice.

But, if you feel obligated then just say "I would like to give you this tip for your hard work" as you hand them money.

I am sure even $5 each would be appreciated. I am sure they are not just making $2 per hour plus tips like a waitress would. $79 seems expensive for delivery when some places include it free.

I used to work for a moving company. I'd give them $20.00 per guy; seriously. They deserve the tips they earn, PROVIDED the furniture is not damaged & they are curtious.

I usually give $20 a person. And definitely if they have to lug it up three flights of stairs!
